My Wed flight was cancelled after I was waiting for around 4 hours at the Zurich airport. We then rescheduled to the same morning flight to LCY for Thu. On Thu itself, we were again 3 hours late but I did finally arrive in Luton after a go around in LCY! So we all had to take the train to go to LON…

In the late afternoon, Swiss told me that all flights to LCY were cancelled for my return flight and I therefore tried to reschedule it to any seat on any flight for Fri, whether with LX or with LH (over Germany) and booked a hotel room for 1 night in LON. When I was calling again Swiss in the morning of the Fri 22st Dec, they told me that I could take one of two flights with LH over MUC as I’ve been on a higher priority waiting list. I did choose the 1105 flight from LHR, which was cancelled afterwards again. I can’t describe the chaotically situation at Heathrow. In quick words, it was like in a 3rd world country when people are fighting for food...

As it was impossible to get a plane somehow to ZRH on Fri, I did buy one of the very last tickets with Eurostar to BRU. From there I took a LX flight to ZRH. This ticket must be the most expensive Y Class flight I’ve ever had, as it was around 800€ for a one-way 50min flight!

I’m also disappointed from Swiss as we had to pay the new fare BRU-ZRH, the Eurostar ticket (GBP155), a hotel room, lost over 2 days of my work time and as it seems they will not make any refund.

What can we do?
For me, it seems something between ridiculous and grotesk that SWISS earned an extra 800€ from you because the flight out of London has been cancelled. So I feel like they should a least refund you this money. And I think you can write SWISS to make them feel the same I guess that if you choose your words clever, there is a chance that they hopefully agree on that because technically they won't loose any money, it's just an earning which won't be realised (unlike if they had to book you on another carrier or so). Ok, LX has to pay the tax for BRU-ZRH, but you already paid taxes for LON-ZRH, which are most likely higher anyway....

BTW: Your case is just perfect for the media. LX cancel flight to let the passenger pay another 800€ is a welcome headline for a certain newspaper, isn't it?
