Key West Hotel Closed After Guest Found Dead
Possible Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Suspected
Doubletree Grand Key Resort: 305 293 1818
KEY WEST* A Key West resort hotel remains closed, and guests have been sent to other area hotels, following an investigation in the death of one guest who may have been exposed to dangerous carbon-monoxide fumes.
The Doubletree Grand resort on South Roosevelt Blvd. was evacuated as a precaution Wednesday after the guests were overcome by some type of fume. Those guests who did not choose to check out were placed in other Key West area hotels, while investigators tried to get to the bottom of the fumes incident.
According to the Key West Citizen, a father and son vacationing from Ft. Myers were overcome by the fumes at about 12:15pm Wednesday. One of them died, while another was treated and released at the Lower Keys Medical Center.
One group of inspectors was at the hotel site Thursday and second was coming in at 1:30pm.
The hotel is telling its displaced guests to call back after 3pm to check on the status of the evacuation. They are awaiting official approval that the hotel is safe before reopening and allowing guests to return.
If inspectors give the hotel the all clear, the resort will first call in the housekeeping staff, and then allow guests ><snip><
