I'd take the F seat on the flight two hours later. Given the time of year and SFO, many things can happen. When the pax gets to SFO, they can inquire about getting onto the earlier flight. There may be misconnects/wx, etc.

Personally, such a change would be a non-event to me. If transiting UA were only that simple
