I think it's reasonable to limit the number of rooms eligible to one customer under a certain rate code, as long as that limitation is clearly stated. I am a AAA member, as well as a Marriott timeshare owner (believe it or not we get a special discount at some Marriott hotels, besides timeshares) and I checked all my current reservations (attempted to make a new reservation using the appropriate codes) and checked the rate rules. In none of the rate rules was a limitation on room quantity noted.
I wonder if the Ren DC is a corporate property. If so, that might explain the departure from what I've seen. I noted, when working the Sydney Marriott category creep issue, that the rate rule verbage I saw appeared to be generated by the hotel for their employees to look at, as it referenced internal jargon that the average hotel guest would have no clue about. If so, and the hotels are publishing the rate rules to the Marriott database, that might explain the issue.
Anyway, happy to play by the rules if I can ascertain them...
