Max rooms allowed when using Gov, AAA, other rates

As recommended by Socrates I am starting this new thread to further discuss the maximum number of rooms that may be reserved using special rates such as Government, AAA, and others.

I know this post will spur a heated debate, I don’t feel this thread is the appropriate place - a new thread should be started if anyone wishes to continue the discussion
Socrates, while I and others value your insight here on the MR forum, in practice I see a disparity between what is implied by you and what happens when making reservations and what is stated, or more appropriately not stated, in the rate rules.

I have absolutely no problem with any limitations Marriott puts on the use of any of its rates. However, what I do have a very big problem with is Marriott not informing us of said limitations. For example when using the AAA rate, in most cases not only do the rate rules not mention a number of rooms limitation, at marriott.com I can actually book three rooms in a single reservation using the AAA code.

Example, when searching Washington DC for 3 rooms using the AAA rate I come up with 107 hotels that have AAA rates. I only found one hotel in those listed on the first page, the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel, that listed in the Rate Rules "2 ROOMS MAXIMUM PER GUEST", whereas others do not include this limitation in their rate rules. Can we assume from this that if the rate rules do not include this limitation then more than 2 rooms may be reserved? Also why, if there is a 2 room limit at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel, does this hotel come up as a possibility when requesting 3 rooms using the AAA rate?

I don't know if the discussion will be heated, but it will be a discussion none-the-less.
