I go to LHR maybe once/year; the rest of my European flying is via FRA. I do this even when I could go via LHR because of the carry-on baggage restrictions at LHR. Most of my trips to Europe are short, and I take carry-on baggage only.

I have flown to/from Europe via the US once (PHL) and it's not something I'll do again. MUCH more trouble than it's worth.
