A rush job to get new security passes to about 150,000 employees and air crew personnel at Pearson airport before the end of December has caused "chaos," long lineups and frustrated workers.
All employees, from pilots to baggage handlers to cleaning staff, are required to have the new ID card by Dec. 31 or they'll be barred from all secure areas at the airport.
Mandated by Transport Canada, the process involves fingerprinting, iris scans, and for many workers, a new background check.
The GTAA has known about this for 3 years and all of a sudden it's a mad panic. Just another example of the total lack of oversight this authority has.
I had a co-worker renew his ID last month and he was issued the old ID. He now has to go back and get the new biometric one.

I went on Wednesday at 9 am and there were 40 people ahead of me. I was told that they had opened at 8 and the first 10 were still waiting to be completed. I left and came back at 5:30 that evening and there were 10 ahead of me. I waited 2 hours still.
There is no way the GTAA will be able to process everyone in time. They simply waited to long to start up the operation. I am interested to see what the gov't does on Jan 01.
