OTish - Delayed bagage due to current fog - don't forget your BA Amex insurance
Having recently had a delayed baggage problem now is probably quite a good time to highlight to people (given the fog and Christmas rush) the decent benefits you receive on the BA Amex card if you book scheduled flights using the card.
Not sure about the bog standard one but The Premium Plus card benefit kicks in after only 6hrs without luggage:
After 6hrs - receive £750 for essential clothing/toiletries
After 48hrs without your luggage - receive an additional £1000 for essentials
These amounts are per Amex Account (as opposed to per traveller) and are only valid on your outgoing flight.
I think there are other benefits relating to accomodation/meals etc too but don't actually have a copy of the policy.
You can contact the insurance people on 01273 668300 but be aware they are only open during regular UK office hours and I would recommend giving them a call just to confirm you are covered if you end up needing something *essential* that is out of the ordinary. (I did this to see if ski boots were covered - advice was that they were (as were missing gloves, hats, thermals etc etc) but I'll wait and see if I get the actual money back!). They can also send you on the claim form when you return.
There is also an emergency out of hours number they give you on the answer machine if the office is shut but I was inclined to leave this for real emergencies.
You need to purchase the essential items on your Amex card to claim back.
Disclaimer - as with all insurance there are lots of conditions - I am not a member of the FSA or any other body so am not qualified to give advice - call the number above for accurate advice etc etc yadda yadda
Thank you schofs for your help/advice on the Amex forum...and apologies if this has posted been posted already
