Not speaking for the new airport, but at Don Muang, when STPC was a downtown hotel (Amari Watergate, Indra Regent et al), you got a TG limo (or whatever car is available) ride to and from the hotel free of cost.

But you paid the 500 Bhat departure fee.

In flight timings similiar to what was described by the OP (arrive at 11 PM and depart at 8 AM), i always choose the dayrooms at Don Muang. Saved all the hassels of immigration, cab ride to the hotel (if not at amari airport), and the departure fee.

I haven't done STPC in Suwarnabhumi yet, so I don't know.
