Call the Elite desk. A few years ago they changed my (non-elite) parent's flights back to the UK to avoid a "potential" weather siruation, which in the end didn't occur - instead of having them fly to BHX they rerouted them to LGW, no charges. Explain the circumstances in London, and that you have onward connections on a different airline, and hopefully they will be sympathetic.
