For good Cuban food, visit muy favorite restaurant in Miami,
Versailles, on Calle Ocho (8th St, also known as US 41). It is delicious and authentic. It can be crowded but IMHO it's worth it.
I don't agree about the stone crabs.
The important thing about stone crabs (and other seafood as well) is that they're fresh. In a hole-in-the-wall - the crabs (because they're expensive) can be sitting around for who knows how long - 2-3-4- days. You might luck out - but you might lose too. The one thing you know about Joe's is it does a huge volume - and the crabs are fresh.
FWIW - stone crabs are expensive. If you get them cheap - there's a reason (and one of the reasons might be that they're flown in frozen from someplace other than Florida). I live in north Florida - crabs have to be frozen or half frozen to get here - and they suck.
To me - stone crabs are something you only eat in south Florida. Maybe a few times in your life if you don't live there. Why take a chance?
Versailles is a fun no-big-deal place. A must-stop-place for politicians running for office - locals - and tourists too. You'd have to be nuts to tell anyone to avoid Versailles. Robyn
