I (would like to think that) I would have given her the seat. OK, she's copping an attitude - but come on, if nothing else she's just had to drag two kids through check-in, security and boarding, which can't have been much fun. I understand it's not necessarily right for her to take her attitude out on hypothetical me, but even so, cut her a break.
I'm always slightly surprised that so many people on FT are quite so sanctimonious that they would consider actually saying "the lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine" with a straight face.
