Serious question why ?
Allegedly to simplify security screening and hence speed up the process. In reality a reponse to BAA's utter incompetance. Why aren't more newpapers, particularly those geared towards businesspeople ie FT, and 'Travel Experts' such as Simon Calder, not delving into the real reasons for these new 'security' measures?
P.s. Aplogies if I have overlooked a whole slew of articles in the press!
P.p.s. On a related note why are gas ciggie lighters still banned from pax passing airside when they are freely being sold airside by WH Smith? Are the airside lighters specially designed so as not to set shoes on fire? Something similar to the cigarettes the UK govt want to introduce that won't set your house on fire?!
