It seems to me that on international flights (AA's 777s, but also UA/QF/CX) the pilots almost read from a script: "The TSA requires us to inform you..." and it's done squarely "for security reasons." What I think is additionally interesting is the tone of disdain that the QF/CX pilots add to it, as if they, too, know it's a pain and a joke.
