Here's an update.
It did take a call to tech support to make the change, but the credits were combined with a minimum amount of fuss. All it took was about 10 minutes, most of which I spent on hold listening to Muzak. I suppose I could have placed the request and hung up, but I wanted confirmation, so the young lady suggested I wait while she made the changes. I did, she did, and all is OK. The fact that I only had 1 credit left on the old pass seemed to be a non-issue.
Interesting side note, I called the SE desk first and the agent who took my call was sympathetic but was misinformed on how to resolve the problem. He suggested I contact customer solutions instead of tech support because I did not click on the renew button that is supposedly inside my flight wallet. Therefore it was discretionary that I be permitted to extend my expiry date on the remaining coupons.
He was wrong on the extension procedures, and I went back into my flight wallet to check for the "renew" button and I couldn't find that either. Everytime I try to do something that is not eveyday common place, I am reminded of the old maxim "Trust but verify"
All's well that ends well.
