Summer can be very hot in the area, but if you could, try to
get a permit for the Wave - http://www.wildlifeland.com/Canon20d/Wave/
by far the most amazing of all the Utah/Arizona desert places.
Bryce, Arches, Zion, Slot Canyons, Grand Canyon are all great.
Try to drive through Tioga Pass - it's a beautiful road through the Sierra.
You end up in Yosemite Valley.

Thanks for that information. Will check it out tonight. We have about three weeks planned of travel with a good few days in Los Angeles so my daughter can visit Universal Studios as well as a very quick visit to Disney (will be her 3rd Disney resort she has been to).
