I also relocated 2 years ago with my 23" monitor, 2 17" monitors, and 2 desktops. What I did was the following.
Desktops:
I basically took apart my PC and wrapped everything first in electrostatic bag. then I got from OD the pink anti static wrapping stuff and wrapped that up. Then I wrapped it in bubble wrap. I tested an old RAM by dropping it from the stairs, didn't do any damage. I was happy

Then I placed all these part into my empty metal case. Then I taped up the case with a layer of bubble wrap, but not too big, just so it wont get any dents. And that went into a hard suitcase. I got to Europe, and no problems at all with electronics.
Monitors
The 17" weren't too bad. first the pink stuff into their Styrofoam boxes they came and then bubble wrapped into hard suitcases. The 24" monitor I have that went with me as a carry on into the original box it came with. I would ONLY carry, never check that monitor in. Too risky for that and price wise, considering my 24" is about $2000, while a 17" is $200.
