Does having status have any effect on your chances for taking a voluntary bump on an oversold flight?

The reason I asked is because on a recent flight DFW-LAS the GA announced that the flight was oversold. I was third in line behind three people who definiteliy did not have status. When I reached the front of the line, the woman said "we do not need anymore." I didn't push the status thing since I didn't know if it was applicable.
