How about connecting to an unknown wireless network in Infrastructure mode? For instance, the other day I was in a hotel and didn't feel like paying $20 for a few hours of Internet service. I found a wireless network with some generic name like "Apple736" without security. Was I safe surfing on it for a couple hours?

Also, has no one ever come across an ad-hoc network that connected them to the Net? I never try but I'm curious.
