The breadth of local knowledge on FT is always amazing. Over the parking garage, under the parking garage, through the old int'l terminal to enter through AA security are all spot on -- if you are in a hurry. With 3 hours, you will not be. If you have never spent time in SFO, the curators of the UA walkway and the new international terminal always put together some very interesting displays. Take time to enjoy those.
When you hit T3 landside, turn right and follow signs to the international terminal. You will need to navigate some escalators. Once in the international terminal, check out the displays and work your way left to T1. You should be able to kill much of the 3 hours just walking around.
If you are continuing on to HI on UA, then you can follow IceT's suggestion and continue through T1 away from the international terminal and walk through the old international terminal to arrive at the AA security.
Aloha!
