Mergers seem to make people feel great, but they are a signicant drain on resources - time-money-people-focus, etc. Look back over the mergers of the past 10+ years and see a real graveyard. This applies across many industries, not just airlines. If they spent the same money to just GROW and IMPROVE their existing company, they would be farther ahead. People think they are buying growth, when it turns out to be a major undertaking to merge.
