At the risk of sounding like a major plane dork - which I am, 100%, like Wireless, - few things sound cooler than the 777 P&Ws as they crank out gobs and gobs of power on takeoff. What's the sound of ten million old-fashioned canister vacuum cleaners starting at once? The same as a 777!

On my SFO-LHR last week, I was happy to hear the pilot tell the ground controller that "we are good for runway 1R." 1R is slightly shorter than 28R/L, which most of the heavies use for takeoffs. Using 1R, I knew the pilots were intending to apply pretty close to max takeoff power, which is cool. (Most of the time, the 777s don't need anything close to max power for a takeoff roll.) We were airborne just at the intersection of 1R and 28L.

777. Another reason to fly United!
