For a great setting with not necessarily A++ food, I would suggest looking into either 1789 or Cafe Milano. Milano is definitely a see-and-be-seen type of atmosphere - I've seen Dick Cheney, etc. dining there, so if that would be "fun" for you guys, it's a good option. 1789 is more traditional, but definitely a "we're spending big bucks to go out to a nice place" type of feel.
