While waiting to take off from LAX yesterday evening, on UA Channel 9, I heard a conversation between an Avianca pilot and ATC when the Avianca pilot decided to do a go around. ATC gave some pretty lengthy instructions, so I suppose it's better for the pilots to concentrate on the task at hand rather than give an announcement. Perhaps automated announcements could be deployed in such instances.
