27A on the 747 is actually a fairly good window seat -- from my (notoriously hazy) memory it has two windows giving you a pretty good look round outside the aircraft once the main door is closed - it obscures one of the windows there.

On the negative side, its not a PE seat for the very tall - my bloke is 6ft2 and was irritated by the (lack-of) leg-room - even with the bit of a hole in the bulkhead that folds out at foot-level after take off. Other downsides are the proximity to the galley (lots of bangs, crashes and high volume galley-FM throughout the trip), the fact its the bassinet position for PE (you might get kicked out) and just being downstairs.

To be honest I don't mind it though: when I'm in the mood I quite like being pulled into gossiping with the flighties about heat magazine and seedy bars; its very private and its away from the traffic flows - you don't see any other pax unless you get up and go walkies. You're also amongst the very first off the plane - before those upstairs when they're using both doors as they increasingly seem to be doing. The snack trolley is just an arm-strech away too for that overnight bottle of water and cassava chip fix.

I wasn't too keen on trying out PE downstairs (personally I dislike PE on the 777), but having done a few sectors now its fine. Better than VS certainly - I don't recall VS having the seat-side lockers in their mini PE-cabin downstairs. Plus, depending on the FSM they don't seem to wake you until the business cabin breakfast/afternoon tea.. crucial extra hour of potential sleep.

Frighteningly, MrSydney you might be talking about the 777 - does their PE have a row 27? -- if so, apologies for waffling on!
