If you currently have a non-refundable tickets on this route ( as the fare would indicate), would you not have to pay the change penalty in returning it and getting credit toward another ticket ? In looking back, I think I have had to pay the penalty when changing for another fare, and if that is the case your "new" cost of $488 plus penalty (not less than $75.. could be over $100) would actually be higher.
