London-Salzburg by car

Hello,

I need your advise about London - Salzburg car journey which I will need to take this Wednesday.

I will have very early start from London so I will be in France by 7am.
After I will land in Calais (France) which route should I take:

North route: Calais > Brussels > Aahen > Koln > Frankfurt > A9 > Munich-Salzburg
or
South route: Calais > Lille > Namur > Luxemburg > Karlsruhe > Stuttgard > Munich-Salzburg

North route would be all-the-way-motorway route. It is a bit longer but seems quicker. But I am concerned about traffic jams while I will be passing ring-roads of major cities Brussels (at morning rushhour), Koln and Frankfurt (afternoon hours).

Taking south route I would have to go through several non-motorway sections, particularly between Saarbruken and Karlsrue as well as southern sections of Munich ringroad. How quick are those sections and how are the roads there?

Any advise or update on the latest traffic problems and roadworks would be very helpful!

Many thanks

mishkira
