Believe me, I've been strung my some junk (fast shrinking shirts, poorly made tools, etc.), but the travel adapters haven't been a problem.
I hear what you are saying. Right or wrong, the Chinese have a bad rep in the area of quality. Here in South America "chino" (translated: Chinese) is often used just to describe something of poor quality even if it isnt from China
. I have had some pretty decent chinese products ... matter of fact Im typing on a Chinese made laptop now that is top notch (Compal).
