Swanhunter - you're right, Saudi Arabia can be considered a law unto itself. In the not too distant past I had the 'pleasure' of working there for in excess of two years on a construction project as the Project Manager. At one stage we were requested/instructed by Saudi authorities to remove all non-Muslim, non-European/American personnel from the project; i.e. if you were Indian/Hindu, Filipino/Christian you were out! Christian Europeans/Americans were OK. It wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere but, hey, this is Saudi.

I'm also aware that the FT moderators seem to have a strict policy re: tolerance of anti-Saudi sentiment - at last two such previous threads have been pulled - so I'll say no more.
