I recently received a letter from AC Aeroplan informing me that I have been awarded Hilton HHonors Gold VIP status, with gold VIP card attached. I didn't think much of this, being an SPG gold, until I went onto the Hilton website and found out that this is the second highest tier.

I'm thinking of giving Hilton a try out being before the end of the year, and my eyes are on the Hilton Osaka. Being that I am entitled to get upgraded (space available) one level up, I have a pretty good rate for a deluxe room, one below executive level. Doing a search on the hilton website for executive rooms, it said there is zero availability. Does this mean I have a limited chance on hitting an upgrade to an executive room? Like SPG, do I have higher chance of hitting an upgrade if I were to check in at 11 am rather than 11 pm?
