If NW just cut service to feed a partner's hub (Alitalia in Milan), I don't know if they'd actually put another trans-atlantic nonstop route. Anyway, I think a lot of NW flyers are so comfortable with KL via AMS that they forget about the Trans-Atlantic nonstops that NW actually does have.
