As most of my IHG stays in 2006 were in ICs, I find myself just under 5000 points short of renewing Platinum for 2007 (because of the 2000 point rule instead of the 10 points per USD - if ICs also used the 10 points per USD, I calculate I would have about 30000 more points that I currently do, courtesy of quite a few 5-6 day stays at ICs). There's no possibility of any further travel this year.

Because my early 2007 already planned travel includes a few trips to locations without ICs (will be using CPs and HIs), Plat is worth getting for 2007.

I think the easiest way is to buy 5000 points - and from what I gather, these purchased points will count towards Plat status. However, I can't find any definitive answer regarding that - so I thought I'd ask the forum.

Also, I'm just in the process of making a Melbourne booking for the Easter 2007 weekend - any experiences on the CP vs the HI there (and any Plat upgrade experiences)?
