When the Elite guide says "After midnight 2 days prior to departure" for the Gold upgrade, what does it really mean? Suppose I want to fly on 8/3. Does the upgrade become effective when the midnight bell strikes on 8/1 (in reality, the night of 7/31)? I didn't think about this until today, when I realized that I would have to call NW to get an upgrade on my CO flight. I got spoiled by the automatic upgrade on NW and forgot how to do this "manually."
