Much of the chat here is not about earning miles but about what's the cheapest place to start and how much it will cost, followed by lots of questions about whether or not a particular itin is valid and/or how various airlines are interpreting rules, then a mix of little topics like who has the best beds, easiest availability, can I legally skip a segment, etc. After all that, once in a while someone posts a routing intended to maximize miles, and asks for suggestions. All that stuff is as important to the guy on a L-class budget as to the rich guys, although the poor folks may do more lurking than contributing for various reasons.

oneworld the board. Judging from thread count, this is not exactly a backwater board on FT but it's not in the top 20, that's for sure. My wife calls it
wonkworld and sometimes I think she's got a point.
I guess what I was trying to say before misinterprolising myself, as a prominent politicist might say, is that - IMO - the bulk of discussions on D/A travel here are the result of the demographics and flying patterns of FT's readership, whereas other BBS have a focus on the destinations rather than the means. On the TT, RTW travel is co-located with the "gap year" (evidencing LP's origins) and it's clearly a younger, thus less affluent readership (or one that doesn't have employer-paid travel) that posts there. And it's there that LONEs, STA travel, Airtreks, et al, come up way more often than they do here, and "where to start" when it's asked almost always has a one word answer.
And by way of prebuttal, if you think there's any kind of judgement lurking in those words, you couldn't be more wrong.
