I also had a long distance relation ship for almost 4 years: she was in Stockholm, me in a little town between Munich and Salzburg.
After considerable study of fares and talking to various sales office, the best solution is to buy a mix of cheapo V,W or similar tix in advance and use flysmart 15k awards for the weekends where you can't plan ahead. In my case L'tur tickets where a last minute option a few times as there would be availability on friday afternoons or monday mornings on 32S flights. Then you aquire a range of VDBs because you fly a lot on peak times which are usually overbooked, which help things.
The pay as you fly and other schemes available aim at the business/corporate traveller and are priced as such.
L'tur is offering HAM-GVA for 165EUR:

A long distance relationship is tough and you need a lot of strong nerves. I would not recommend it. Both of us now live together in the US and we regret not moving together earlier in hindsight. I've earned plenty of miles and know a lot about the inner workings of SK and LH now, but its not really worth it.
