I dunno about Playboy, but Penthouse has supposedly changed a lot in its content from 20 or so years ago. I read an interview story about Guccione that was kind of a riches to rags thing. He said you can't make it with a soft-core magazine anymore and that the advertisers were leaving on account of the pictures of urinating models but he wasn't going to pull them. Reminded me how long it had been since I had seen that magazine.

Of course, if you're a real penny-pincher when it comes to men's magazines the thing to do is get subscriptions to Stuff, FHM and Maxim through the bulk houses or even when they do a freebie promo to boost circulation (check fatwallet.com for those). Don't pay more than $5/year. That'll get you lots of trashy stuff (& perfume ads to rub over your cheeks and really annoy seatmates). On the nudity side, pop into your adult video store not to buy/rent anything, but to raid the freebie publications on the racks by the door. The X-Citement ones especially are getting to be like a free version of the old Hustler.
