In answer to your question, all bookings are done through the Pass management screen, rather than the AC.COM search engine. If you compare the two (AC.COM vs. Pass booking options) after stripping out all flights involving UA metal, you would find that the pass screen is usually a subset (although sometimes a superset) of the AC.COM offerings. In particular, you typically only receive one route option per connector... for example, whereas AC.COM may show you an 8 a.m. or a 9 a.m. flight from Ottawa meeting up with the same outbound flight from YYZ or YUL, the pass will only display the 9:00 a.m. outbound option. This can be frustrating if you want to allow yourself extra time in transit, but once you get used to how the pass system works you can also turn the booking options to your advantage (particularly if you need to maximize Q miles), because the passes sometimes present options that aren't available on AC.COM.
