I wondered about that too (the purchase), I was flipping channels one day and saw Jim Cramer (Mad Money) talking about the companies. He said "Sirius has announced they won't buy XM" and I was sure he had it backwards and would correct himself. Of course he didn't.

How would Sirius be doing so well and XM not? Is it just better financing or is Howard Stern really dragging in that many listeners? My main reason for getting Sirius (or either for that matter) would be for CBC Radio 1 while in the US, so it's a tough decision whether to with Sirius for CBC, XM for better selection, or neither.

I'm seriously thinking of using podcasts as an alternative to CBC, both podcasts from CBC itself (and maybe manual downloads of newscast .mp3s) and podcasts from elsewhere. That will require replacing my car radio or adding an inline FM connection, but so would satellite radio.
