Keep in mind, too, AA is, seemingly, ALWAYS short of gates @ LAX, so you could land in plenty of time (& coming from Honolulu, you'll no doubt have a tail wind to get you there even earlier), BUT could easily end up sitting in the penalty box in El Segundo waiting for a gate or end up @ a tow-in gate w/a student driver who can't get the plane in (last New Year's eve-I gave up counting after we'd been pushed back for the 6th re-try).
