30 minutes at LAX domestic to domestic is the minimum legal connection time (per aa wiki).

So AA.com shows that to you since it is a legal connection (29 minutes would be illegal).

Logical connection? NO.

The HNL0LAX flight will probably be somewhat full. If you are back in coach any distance it may take you 10 minutes to get off the plane. At which point the LAX-JFK will already be boarding.

If you have to go potty .. or stop to buy some food for the flight .. your chances of getting overhead space on the LAX-JFK flight are pretty limited.

What is the next flight? If one is within 1-2 hours later that is the one I would take.

Any delay in your inbound (tho you will have tail winds vs head winds) will cut your connection even shorter.

Will you make it. Maybe. AA will attempt to get you on the next flight (with available space) if you missconnect. But why accept center seats on an alternative when you can book what you really want with a longer connection??
