I think the only reason to choose UA on this routing would be because you want to make two stops (I think UA dropped JFK-NRT?) and add seven hours to your journey. (If crediting mileage to UA/MP then a UA routing might be preferrable due to the additional EQM [longer routing], and RDM [status bonuses]. Upgrading might also be a consideration, paid business class on UA could be upgraded to F.)
