I travel a lot with someone who counts as a VIP (although he is not a member of BAEC). Special Services ensure he (and I, when I'm with him) don't have to queue for anything, don't have to go through immigration at LHR etc. Pretty handy.

But that's something different to Special Service Teams for Golds, I think.
