As for the recalculation of journey flown, it may be due to if you fly the outbound and not the return of a flight you will not get half your money back.
I think you'll find most single tickets are roughly 60 - 70% of the price of a return, so I am assuming it is sayind don't expect to receive 50% of a ticket price refunded if you ouly go outbound. This happened to me about 2.5 years ago flying to Bogota (when BA flew there). Total ticket cost £3,900 - only flew BA O/B instead of return and was refunded £1500 of the ticket price only as it was recalcualted as a single rather than return fare.
Not so much sure if it is a change or just better explanation.
