I recently stayed at the HHV with another couple. I booked both rooms using my points. I was very surprised and pleased that upon arrival we wre both upgraded to a deluxe oceanfront room in the Rainbow tower. I had never asked for an upgrade and I'm a mere silver (though I was gold when I booked the room). The only thing I did ask for was to please put us in the same tower as the other couple, if possible. They put me in a corner room with 2 balconies overlooking the Pacific (Rm 701) and put my friends a few doors down (709) with one balcony overlooking the Pacific. Plus it was a Friday night so we all got front row seats for the fireworks.

In addition, we were chatting with the lady at the luggage desk and, without asking, she handed me 4 certificates for breakfast. She said that it was a relief to be talking to people who weren't yelling at her.

So thanks to the Hilton staff for the complimentary upgrades. It really made me look good in front of my friends. It was one of the nicest views I've ever had.
