I sometimes see overnight layovers on Orbitz, but it seems to happen most often when the trip goes to a smaller city by way of a hub. A recent search offered an overnight at MSP from BOS to Green Bay, but I think the price was much more than the same day flights through DTW. Another later search did not show the overnight option.
