This offer came up when I logged into citicards.com. They usually only offer a $15 statement credit. Seems like a good deal if you can cancel right away.
This offer coupled with an unusually high account activity (I usually spend about 3k a month, versus 10k for this month), so my statement balance was higher than normal. Perhaps this larger incentive is only targeted to people with higher end-of-month balances?
I remember once a "cash-back" for gas enticement for me was split into 4 quarters. So if this is the case for Citi, then you could only redeem $25 each quarter (in your instance). You had to get the redemption certificates in the mail, then you had to send one in each quarter with a gas receipt, then they would process it and give you a check back for the maximum of $25 a quarter. In the meantime, you had to stay a "member" to get the reward so it amounted to nothing (or $25 if you're lucky) if you cancel before having to pay for the service. Not sure if this is the same gig, but I guess you probably tried it, so tell us!
