(OT) VW Touareg tows an ex-BA Jumbo!
Just saw this and thought it was worth a mention....
"Volkswagen decided the Touareg, recently crowned 'Caravan Club Tow Car of the Year', needed a bigger challenge. So they hired a jumbo jet.
The result is this publicity stunt; starring a modestly-modified 5-litre V10 Touareg and a 155-tonne Boeing 747. Three tonnes of metal ballast had to be added to the VW increasing the cars weight to 7.5 tonnes, but the engine remained standard - with its 533lb ft of torque proving enough to shift the jumbo. The aeroplane is an ex-British Airways 747 that spends its life being used on film sets - meaning it doesn't have proper engines. More weight was added to compensate for that and, impressively, after repeated runs the Touareg suffered no adverse side-effects.
Unless you have a 155 tonne caravan that needs shifting, it's all a bit pointless - but it does make for a great picture."
