When they had the stupidly small 1 bag limit, I got through security with a large bag that collapsed small enough to fit into their template, and coat and trouser pockets that were stuffed with Pentax z-1p, 28 - 80 f/2.8 lens and various other things. Despite the fact that I looked like a human hamster with bulging pockets, they didn't give me a second look.
I managed to put these back into my bag in the queue between the line of "can I help?" morons who were policing the rule and the scanner. The scanner folks weren't bothered in the least about bag size or numbers.
