you can't fix the weekend stuff, unless you have some control over what days your travel appointments take place, but I just stay the night and fly during the workday to my next location. If you work all day then fly half the night, you are subsidizing the 'cost' of business travel out of your own hide and protecting your company from any impact. Is this the right balance? You have to decide. The absolute worst, to me, is to take a redeye and then give a full days work the next morning -- you worked three 'days' -- whereas if I wait and fly the next day, the travel impact is shared between my firm and me. YMMV
