I cannot think of any config on a BA plane where putting a UM in an aisle seat would remotely afford the sort of supervision from the crew to prevent a male pax next to a UM acting inappropriately.

And assuming BA were to make do with this unsatisfactory "next best", what does it say to the parents of a child who is assaulted while the crew were busy on other duties?

"Sorry, we used to have a policy to prevent UMs being seated next to male passengers, but we got rid of it because we didn't want to offend their sensibilities."

From a legal point of view, it would be the worst possible option. Assuming reponsibility for the UM, recognising the risk of a possible assault, and then failing to do enough to prevent it.

Have you read LapLap's post?
